Anping Sunset

    This work depicts the Port of Anping, using large blocks to emphasize the expression of shapes and colors. He was also good at using succinct lines, blocky compositions, and bold colors, while emphasizing on-site painting, capturing light and shadow with the eyes, and images with the heart.

    HO Chau-chu

    HO Chau-chu was an artist from Hsinchu County, Taiwan. Born in a Hakka farming village of Qionglin Township, Hsinchu County, his father HO Hsin-yan was a Buddhist art painter. He was the eldest among five brothers and two sisters. In 1949, he was admitted to the Art Department of the Taipei Normal School (now National Taipei University of Education) with a government scholarship. After graduation, he taught art at the Affiliated Elementary School of Taipei Normal School until retirement. From 1957, he won prestigious national art exhibition awards, and for three consecutive years, he won the highest award of the Tai Yang Art Exhibition, the “Tai Yang Award.” He was recommended by the painter LI Mei-Shu to become a member of the Tai Yang Art Society. Between 1966 and November 2021, he held 35 solo exhibitions. His main painting themes were natural landscapes, and his primary creative medium was oil painting. His painting style was influenced by Picasso’s Cubism and Abstract Expressionism, depicting with rich color blocks, lines, and simplified concrete images. He published two books about his experiences visiting art museums overseas. On March 2, 2023, he passed away due to severe COVID-19. After his death, he was honored with a Presidential Citation.
